Careers within and beyond the unit
As a research-dedicated institute, many scientists work at the unit for several years as a PhD student or postdoctoral fellow, before progressing to exciting careers elsewhere. As signatories of DORA, we challenge the evaluation of scientific output or individual scientists based on metrics such as Journal Impact Factors. Moreover, in our internal evaluations and hiring procedures, we take a broad perspective on contributions to science, valuing impact on policy and practitioners, sharing of scientific resources such as code and data and contributions to public outreach, alongside more traditional output such as journal publications.
We aim to train, develop and enhance the skills of everyone that chooses to work at the CBU. We have a wide range of training available and a wealth of expertise and networks to share. We enjoy close links with the University of Cambridge and have access to their career development service.
