I’m interested in the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying speech perception, particularly in challenging listening conditions. In my previous work I have investigated how listeners adapt to speech signal degradation, exploring the stages and mechanisms of this adaptation, and the role played by talker discriminability in multi-talker environments. I have a strong interest in how prior knowledge is integrated in listening, and have used EEG to understand how the brain dynamically processes speech, focusing on the predictive processes involved in speech processing.
I am currently working with Dr Matt Davis and Dr Elizabeth Buchanan-Worster on their project “Developing whole classroom online measurement of sensory and cognitive skills in 5-6 year olds”, for which I am developing tasks to assess children’s speech perception abilities.
