The MRC CBU has signed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). DORA is ‘a cross-disciplinary global initiative seeking to improve the ways in which scholarly research outputs are evaluated¹. DORA signatories support the idea that evaluation of researchers and research output should not be based on quantitative heuristics such as Journal Impact Factors, but rather the scientific content of manuscripts. Moreover, it calls for a broader assessment of what is considered scientific output to include software, data, outreach and policy impact.
Professor Susan Gathercole, Unit Director said: “At the MRC CBU we take a broader view on what constitutes high quality scientific work. DORA captures the scientific values of the Unit and this is why we wish to pledge our strongest support for this initiative.”
