Abstract:
This report summarises a study of the learning of an integrated office system by novice users. The emphasis of the study was to examine both the development of performance and the development of user's knowledge of the system. Users attended the laboratory for eight sessions during which they were trained and tested on a wide range of text, spreadsheet, and graphical tasks. Tests included three types of performance test and independent assessments of users' articulatable and implicit knowledge of the system. The major results are summarised together with some remarks concerning relationships among the different assessment techniques.
