Abstract:
Computer design often involves the evaluation of tradeoffs between advantages and disadvantages of design alternatives which have differing implications for the ease with which the system will be used. A study is presented which compares the most common method of evaluation, the time to carry out a given task, with an indication of the user’s preferred alternative. The results suggest that relying on time measures alone for such evlauation may involve hidden costs in terms of user acceptance.
