Drs. Mark Buckley (University of Oxford), Andrew Bell (CBU, seen left), and Natasha Sigala (Sussex University, Visiting Scientist of the CBU) have been awarded a £1.7M MRC project grant to examine neural activity and interactions within a network of cortical regions responsible for mediating choice behaviour. A key region in this network is frontopolar cortex (FPC), which sits at the top of a hierarchy of prefrontal cortex (PFC) regions from where it is believed to exert top-down control upon other PFC regions as well as on posterior cortex. This project will investigate the relationships between FPC and other regions within this network, including retrosplenial and temporal cortex in order to ultimately gain a greater understanding of the neurological and psychiatric disturbances in the brain that lead to impairments in decisions and choices.
