My PhD research examines how emotional difficulties can emerge following brain injuries, with a particular focus on contemporary models of emotion processing. For example, understanding how interoception, the brain’s detection and interpretation of signals from the body, may be disrupted after the injury and how this may affect emotional experiences. My work seeks to clarify why emotional difficulties arise in some individuals after ABIs, what this might tell us about the brain and how these difficulties might be better targeted in rehabilitation.
I am part of the Neurorehabilitation Research Team, where our work focuses on improving outcomes for individuals who have experienced an acquired brain injury. These injuries can lead to diverse and often long-lasting changes in cognition, physical ability and emotional functioning, with significant consequences for everyday life. Our research aims to better understand the mechanisms underlying these changes in order to inform the development of more effective rehabilitation strategies.
