Abstract:
We discuss the purposes of functional assessment and describe a new assessment procedure for people with severe head injury. The procedure developed, the Wessex Head Injury Matrix (WHIM), (1) is concrete and behavioural, (2) is operationally defined, (3) focuses on attainment, (4) is timed, (5) takes environment into account, (6) is reliable and (7) identifies reasons for independence.
