Abstract:
The lyrics of a 1937 song by George and Ira Gershwin claim that: "The way you wear your hat, The way you sip your tea, The memory of all that, They can't take that away from me." Unfortunately, this claim is wrong: they, in the form of progressive dementing illnesses, can take away a person's memory of all that. Furthermore, different varieties of such illnesses can take away coherent subsets of the memory of all that, yielding insights into the structure of memory systems in the brain.
