Research interests
- Neural basis of semantics
- Category-specific brain activations
- Neuropsychology of language and memory, especially word category impairments in patients with progressive brain disease
- Cross-linguistic studies of English and Arabic
My main interest is in the nature and neural basis of semantics. In examining the role of sensorimotor regions in semantic processing, I use behavioural analysis and neuroimaging techniques (fMRI) to measure brain activation in neurologically healthy individuals during semantic memory tasks. These behavioural and neuroimaging methods are supplemented by neuropsychological studies of patients with disorders of language and/or semantic memory.
