My main research interests are kittens and cookies, but nobody was offering positions in those. Instead, I now work in cognitive neuroscience, with a particular interest in attention and short-term memory.

At the MRC Brain and Cognition Sciences Unit, I work with Duncan Astle to investigate resilience in children. Specifically, our team is trying to figure out what cognitive, character, and brain factors make some children flourish despite adversity. We collect data using iPad tests and neuroimaging (MEG and MRI), and leverage ‘Big Data’ and machine learning in an attempt to make sense of it.

In addition to my research, I have a keen interest in Open Science, and in teaching researchers how to do programming. Two highlights include PyGaze (an open-source Python library for creating experiments), and my book Python for Experimental Psychologists.
