Abstract:
A reply to Paul Rozin's Commentary "Disgust faces, basal ganglia and obsessive-compulsive disorder: some strange brainfellows" which appeared in the same edition of Trends in Cognitive Sciences. The article summarises some recent findings showing disproportionate deficits in the recognition of emotional cues signalling disgust in two subject populations; patients with Huntington's disease, and subjects with obsessive compulsive disorder. Recent imaging work pointing to a specific neural substrate for the perception of facial expressions signalling disgust is also discussed.
