Abstract:
This paper surveys studies in speech perception of the influence of sound segments on adjacent sound segments. It discusses the influence of transitions on the perception of adjacent segments and the interdependence of consonants and vowels in speech processing. Acoustic factors, the extent of contextual advantages, and procedural issues in the experimental designs are also discussed.
